Boiler question (Real boilers - Not ugly women)

Can anyone with a bit of knowledge on this help.
Recent had issues with the boiler turning the central heating on when the thermostat is down lower than the temperature of the room.
Started intermittently and then got worse and literally got to the point where the only way to turn central heating off was to switch boiler to water only.
Booked a plumber / boiler man in and he said it could be the valve stuck open but won't know until he looks. Before due to arrive it started working correctly and it was doing so when he arrived.
Checked it over and serviced it and couldn't see what the issue was so he ascertained it was the
wireless thermostat link dropping and not sending correct message so box on wall next to boiler confusing it.
Got loads of shit on so I just told him to get it sorted and he changed thermostat and wireless box attached to boiler. All was working fine and then this morning at 6am boiler kicks in when room temp was 21 and thermostat set at 16.
Any advice?

AVERAGE CALL OUT FEE (INC VAT IF APPLICABLE)
London Area £58.00
South, SW and Midlands £49.00
Outer Region and North £41.00
that's call out fee without any parts, maybe British Gas expensive if your system is relatively new, but as I say for an intermittent fault he is going to get cover for a year for as many call outs as is necessary, whereas 2 callouts from plumbers is going to cover the cost for a year.

Sign up for HomeCare cover boiler, central heating, plumbing and electrics from British Gas around 15 notes a month, they normally come out to service the boiler to make sure it is in reasonable condition and can get the parts, after the first visit you are covered.
When he asks if you have any problems keep schtum. Leave it a few weeks and then call them out at no cost to you.
Trust me, when intermittent faults start so do the bills, unless you are lucky and find a good honest plumber, they are going to play 'poke and hope' or 'we guess you pay' and it's going to cost you an arm and a leg.

I had this happen to me and it was the frost protection thermostat. the plastic and metal had deteriorated and it was switching the boiler on thinking it was 4 degrees C.

Have you had a second opinion from another plumber\\\\boiler man? this is what most normal people would do rather than getting agitated that the responses on a football site are not answering the question.

Changeover valve stuck open is very common at this time of year. Is the boiler coming on when your use hot water (or when you draw hot water?)
Find the valve, twiddle the lever on the side and see if that clears it. But it probably need lubricating anyway. (it was the other way round for me - valve was stuck shut).

Mine started a few times in the middle of the night when it was set lower than the temp showing (20 C). Changed the batteries in the thermostat and cure it. Seems the default reset was 20 C.

Any boiler man worth his salt would know that the first port of call on this should be a swift wiping of your knob across the thermostat.

Agree with penners, if he had not picked the old boiler we would have had eleven men on the pitch for 90 minutes and would probably have won.
